About

WE WANT TO REDEFINE HOW PEOPLE BUY, USE AND MOST IMPORTANTLY – VALUE AND UPCYCLE THEIR CANDLES. WE DO THIS BY DESIGNING THE HIGHEST QUALITY CONCRETE CANDLES AS WELL AS REUSING AND RECYCLING OUR VESSELS.

When we experience trauma or stress, it’s not uncommon for our lives to unravel. After a difficult year spent nursing my late mother in 2017, it was mandatory to find a way to nurture myself outside of grieving. As a daughter, wife, and mother; my attention was divided across these roles. Finding the time to exercise self-care became very challenging.

As a qualified teacher, I understood the importance of self-care as well as the therapeutic value of essential oils, so here I found solace in creating unique oil blends that were reminiscent of the British and Nigerian culture that evoked memories of my childhood. Being a candle lover on top of that, meant that filling a room with a soothing scent was simply my idea of bliss. And so, my journey started in creating candles with both mood and ethics in mind.

In 2018, I was asked to create scented candles for a family wedding of 650 guests to add to the décor, create ambience and to gift the guests as favours — a request that worked to accelerate my candle making skills —and that’s where it all started. Fast forward to now, and you will find our scented candles, with wooden crackling wicks and earthy, woody scents, that go beyond their intended use. Our personally hand-crafted concrete vessels can be repurposed in any way imaginable.

As imọlẹ is the vibration level I always work at, it felt deserving that this became an integral part of the journey — and so Imọlẹ Candles was born! The word imọlẹ (pronounced ee-mo-le) is a word derived from the Yoruba language meaning: "light", insinuating that when light comes — darkness disappears. This is what I want for my customers. I want them to find solace and well-being benefits in the burning of our soy candles. This is our aim – to create a culture of well-being and a new experience of relaxation by using our hand-crafted soy concrete candles.

At Imọlẹ Candles, we handcraft all our concrete jars ourselves, create our own oil blends and hand-pour every single candle, turning them into thoughtful and luxurious gifts. We want to encourage our customers to upcycle the concrete candle vessels and use them for other purposes. They can be turned into plant pots, pencil holders, or anything else your imagination gives you. Our candle vessels, which are all handmade, are sturdy enough to be used for all these purposes, and more.
